The holy town of Vrindavan will be home to a unique and world’s tallest Lord Krishna temple which will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore here in the next five years.
‘Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir’ will have a height of 700 feet or 210 metres, thrice the height of 72.5-metre Qutub Minar in Delhi.
The temple is conceptualized by devotees of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bangalore.
The 70-storey temple will feature a capsule elevator which will take visitors from the ground level to the 700 ft tall viewing gallery giving an immersive 3D sound and light experience of the different planetary systems described in the vedic literatures, project organisers said.
A look-alike of the verdant forests of Vrindavan will be recreated around this magnificent temple from descriptions in the Srimad Bhagavatam; sprawling 26 acres it will consist of the twelve forests (dvadashakanana) of Braj, they said.
The ‘Krishna Lila Theme Park’ attractions will include themed story telling areas, musical fountains, garden lawn and water features, Yamuna creek for boating experience, Braj heritage village and goshala to recreate the atmosphere of Vrindavan of Lord Krishna.
The project, which will be completed in five years time, will have Krishna Heritage museum, Bhagvad Gita Expo, lecture halls and centre for Krishna heritage studies.
Social development programmes that are part of this project include increasing the support for ‘Akshaya Patra‘ mid-day meal programme for feeding children studying in government schools of Mathura district. About 1.65 lakh children are fed everyday under the programme.
The organisers will undertake welfare programmes for the widows of Vrindavan, carry out restoration, up-gradation and rejuvenation of the important sites of Braj, restoration of river Yamuna to her original and pristine glory and ‘Goshala’ for demonstrating cow protection.
The construction of a 70-storey temple ‘Chandrodaya Mandir’, billed to be the tallest shrine in the world when completed, started in August in the precincts of Akshaya Patra Vrindavan here amid chanting of vedic hymns.
The proposed ‘Chandrodaya Mandir’, a 213-metre high one of its kind temple is expected to mark Vrindavan, where Lord Krishna is said to have spent his childhood, on the world spiritual map.
“The temple is being constructed to fulfill the wish of Srila Prabhupada. Chandrodaya temple aspires to provide the impetus for and facilitate the transformation of society and to inculcate spirituality,” Chanchalapati Das, President of the temple said while addressing the gathering.
The temple, which will be the tallest shrine in the world when completed, aims to imitate Vrindavan of Krishna’s times as spelled out in the ancient texts.
Karshni Guru Sharnanand Maharaj, who was also present, said that this temple would not only be the highest but would be a symbol of excellence of Vastu knowledge.
Actress-turned-MP from Mathura, Hema Malini said that the temple would propagate the message of Lord Krishna all over the world.
Leader of UP Congress parliamentary board Pradeep Mathur said that he expects that the temple would be constructed without any hurdle as it’s dedicated to Lord Krishna.
The highlight of the temple would be its height. People would reach this 700-ft high temple by capsule elevator.
The 26 acre area around temple would re-establish the glory of forest of Krishna period, musical fountain, Bhagwat discourse centre, a kund, boring in holy water of Yamuna, Brij heritage village and cow shelter would form the part of theme park, press coordinator Sandeep Singhal said.

Krishna Lila Theme Park
The indoor park will permit visitors and devotees to immerse themselves in Krishna Consciousness through-out the year, irrespective of the sometimes hostile weather conditions of Vrindavan. The indoor park also houses an expo to present the pastimes of Lord Sri Krishna, the life of Sri Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada. The park will also have a Bhagavad-gita Expo to ignite the minds and invigorate the intellect with the stupendous wisdom given by Sri Krishna, that form the bedrock of culture and philosophy of life in India.

Braj Heritage Village
Braj Heritage Village to transport visitors in time and space of Lord Sri Krishna, India has a rich heritage of epics and classics that are renowned the world over. The India Heritage and Culture Expo are planned as a walk through with the matic lighting and exhibits that highlight the legends from these epics and classics. The exhibits will display dolls in real life-size settings with light, sound, and visual effects.
In addition, there will be audio-visual shows in small and medium-sized theatres. These exhibits and shows will communicate the timeless message of the classics of India in an entertaining and educative manner.
Goshala
The conception layout for the Goshala Master plan is inspired from the peacock feather.
The concentric rings of beautiful green and blue hues forming around the deep dark blue nucleus of peacock’s eye form the different zones of the 30 acres goshala land.
The cow shelters form the nucleus of the layout surrounded with free roaming area, grazing fields and plantations. The cow shed are spread all around a small Temple for Sri Radha Krishna (GOPALA as the protector of cows) and tulsi gardens, creating a large courtyard for easy access of the Go-palaks to the cowsheds for routine activities.
Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir aims to inculcate the glorious Vedic values in today’s youth and thereby develop the exalted character of a true Indian with examples and life philosophy drawn from the Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam. Crime, corruption, inequities and other challenges that seem to dominate our contemporary society cannot be reined in merely by improved legislation and stricter law enforcements. To mitigate these debilitating vices in the society, the heart of the individual has to be transformed and a fundamental revision of worldview is essential because crime and corruption begins in the heart of an individual. Otherwise, all attempts to mitigate these vices will merely be cosmetic – trying to address the symptoms rather than the root cause of the problems. Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir is a project conceived by the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore.
