Brushing aside the controversy surrounding the NIA’s chargesheet in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that all agencies under the government had “complete autonomy”.
Denying there was any political interference that led to the exoneration of Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Singh said, “All our investigation agencies have complete autonomy. There is no interference from our side or the government’s side.” Singh told reporters at the sidelines of a BSF event.
The NIA had last week, in a U-turn, dropped all charges against Thakur and five others in the Malegaon blasts case. Charges under the stringent MCOCA law were dropped against all the accused, including Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit, in the chargesheet filed in a Mumbai court.
Asked when NIA investigators could travel to Pakistan in connection with the probe into Pathankot attack case, Singh said foreign secretaries of the two countries had spoken on the issue.
The Home Minister described the outcome in the Assembly polls as a “spectacular” win for BJP.
“The BJP got a spectacular win. It has a clear majority in Parliament. The party has formed the government in 14 states either with a full-fledged majority or by way of coalition. A big geographical area has been covered by the BJP,” he said.
On Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s pitch for a “major surgery” in the party organisation in the wake of its disappointing results in Assembly polls, he said the issue was Congress’s andar ki baat (internal matter).
