Following a nearly two-year delay, Goa government on August 15 will launch Dheen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana targetting nearly 3.5 lakh families in the state.

Pegged at Rs 100 crore, under the state government’s ‘universal healthcare scheme’, residents (minimum domicile of 5 years) will be able to avail reimbursement for nearly 447 medical procedures both at empanelled private and government hospitals. However, the insurance cover for nearly 276 ailments can be availed only if the treatment is performed at government hospitals.

“This is first of its kind inclusive medical scheme in the country, irrespective of a residents income or any other factor they can avail improvised access to quality medicines,” Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said.

The scheme also covers chronic lifestyle disease like diabetes, hypertension, also mental health, admission in Ayurvedic hospital and other disorders.

While a family of three can avail an insurance cover upto Rs 2.5 lakh per annum, four and above are entitled for Rs 4 lakh worth coverage per annum. The state government will pay the premium on behalf of the registered families that range from Rs 2800 and upwards, Parsekar said.

The Goa government has tied up with United India Insurance Scheme for a period of five years, while Goa Electrical Limited (GEL) will look into the registration and renewal of the insured. For OBC (Non-Creamy layer), Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, the government has discounted the registration fee by 50 per cent.
