“Like Make in India, Now Think In India”
Ministry of Human Resource & Development launched a unique concept Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan which aims to ignite passion and nurture the spirit of inquiry, creativity and love for Science & Mathematics in school children. The initiative is in line with Prime Minister’s Make In India project. Under this, ‘Model Science Labs’ will be setup across the country beginning with the North East region. To encourage students to ‘Think in India’, ministry initiated this Abhiyan which aims to curb the outward flow of the country’s students who leave their homeland in search of support for their ideas. Ministry will facilitate funding of such innovations and ideas in collaboration with Industry. It will encourage students to come up with new designs.
HRD Minister Smriti Irani addressed students through video conferencing. She said, “Let us begin with North East by setting up one model lab for school children. Once we setup the model science labs in every district of the North East, In conjunction with DST, we can go beyond and establish across the country.” Phase 2 of the programme will be launched in January next year targeting the higher education sector. A national innovation competition will also happen in January. The initiative was launched by renowned scientist and former President Shri APJ Abdul Kalam Azad. The audience also got to hear and interact with scientists like Dr. Tessy Thomas, Project Director AGNI IV and Smt. Nandani Harinath, Deputy Operations Director, Mars Orbiter Mission.
Earlier Ministry launched the similar unique project, Global Initiative For Academic Networks (GIAN) where celebrated academicians and industry experts from across the world are invited to teach at least one semester in India at the cost of Government of India. This helps our students to interact with the Global giants of there respective fields.
