Crude Bomb Explosions in Popular Bangladesh Hindu Temple Injure 10

Ten people were injured when three crude bombs exploded on the premises of Kantaji Temple in Bangladesh’s Dinajpur district on Saturday.

Over 5,000 people were witnessing an open-air show organised to mark the Rash Mela festival, when the bombs exploded.

Six of those injured were rushed to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital.

Soon after the blasts, the police arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the incident. The bombs appear to have been planted in the ground as most of those injured suffered splinter injuries in the lower part of the bodies.

Officer in-charge of the local Kahrol police station, Abdul Gafuradded said that the investigations have already begun and that “it could be an act of extremists.”

Kantaji Temple is a government maintained archaeological site, but Hindus also perform their rituals and thousands of people gather there during the annual Rash Mela.

The attacks have alarmed the international community and raised concerns that religious extremism is growing in the traditionally moderate South Asian nation.
