Greater Noida: The Greater Noida Authority on Thursday registered four flats in Zeta One sector for the family members of Mohd Akhlaq, who was lynched by a mob in Dadri after they allegedly suspected him of storing beef in his house.
The four one-bedroom flats have been allotted to Akhlaq’s wife Ikraman and his three brothers -Jaan Mohammed, Afzal Ahmad and Zameel Ahmad . The payment of Rs 9.5 lakh for each of the flats was done by the families from the money given to them from the chief minister’s discretionary fund. An additional payment of Rs 67,000 each was done for registration.
A family member told TOI that the family reached Greater Noida’s stamp and registration office on Thursday morning. “The family paid Rs 10 lakh for each flat as the Greater Noida authority had made it clear that actual cost of the flats is Rs 20 lakh and 24 lakh, and it can’t give these flats free of cost.
The authority then calculated the minimum cost of the flat, which includes construction cost, and offered it at the minimum cost for a flat with an area of 45 square metres,” the family member said.
One of Akhlaq’s kin said that none of the four allottees are likely to move into the flats at once because of the poor connectivity , but two brothers have planned to shift there in due time. The family was forced to flee Dadri after Akhlaq was lynched and has since moved to Delhi.
The flat allotment comes nearly two months after the UP government had announced its decision to hand over houses, in addition to the compensation amount of Rs 45 lakh. Akhilesh Yadav had, during his meeting with Akhlaq’s mother, daughter and brother on October 5, promised to extend “all possible assistance” to the bereaved family, including rehabilitation in Noida.
