A Gift

The universe we inhabit is not constant, but It moves, transforms and changes based on an underlying process called “give and take”.

Mother Nature gives “gifts” of air, light, food to sustain ourselves physically. We also receive love, understanding and support from family and friends, that nurture us emotionally, and learning and teachings from spiritual men that nourish our soul. This process starts from Mother Nature, and finds personification in the mother who gave us birth. Animals and Humans both follow this process. The process gets completed when we give our time, money and affection to others keeping it in progression , giving motion to the universe.

The progress of an individual, a society and finally the nation follows these inherent and implicit laws. The balance is disturbed when Mother Nature realizes that the energy of this gift is reduced. Since cosmic energy cannot be created nor destroyed ( the law of conservation of energy states that energy can only be transformed never lost or created) , the imbalance created is artificial.

People who receive gifts from Nature, need to complete the circle by giving gifts in return. This is a simple sentence, but the core of asymmetry is here. When we bestow our gifts to undeserving people or institutions not only do we stop the flow of energy , but we may be harming them. 2400 years ago Plato wrote “When a benefit is wrongly conferred, the author of the benefit may often be said to injure”.

We mostly give our time or money where some amount of certainty exists that a return in kind is possible. We give gifts to those who are affluent, we give money to temples expecting something in return from the Lord ( even if we are not sure that we will get something, we definitely get a free boost of ego ), We stain these gifts by our desires. What we receive from Mother Nature is unadulterated, that is with no purpose attached. If we keep giving impure energy as gifts we end up polluting our society.

Just as we need to start giving gifts to those who deserve, who are left out of this circle of nature, we also need to stop taking gifts from others. This helps us in our spiritual progress.

Those who go on accepting gifts from Nature and others and are unable to give back are “forced to pay”. Diseases, Surgeries, Lawsuits, Losses are all dictated to such people.

Giving a gift is different from bartering. When we give without expectation in return, we really give.
