Mercury poured at the base of Sabarimala temple mast (panchavargathara)

The Devaswom Board has also lodged a direct complaint with the DGP.

Sabarimala: The base (panchavargathara) of the new golden temple mast installed at Sabarimala Ayyappa temple on Sunday was found destroyed using mercury.

The ceremonial installation of the new temple mast was held on Sunday morning. A change in colour was noticed at the panchavargathara after the Ucha Pooja. Detailed investigations revealed that the substance poured was mercury.

The sannidhanam police have registered a case.

Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran is also present on the temple premises.

In his response, Kadakampally Surendran said he suspects a deliberate move to destroy the mast.

The visuals from the CCTV cameras are being inspected. The Devaswom Board has also lodged a direct complaint with the DGP.

Travancore Devaswom Board president Prayar Gopalakrishnan said the DGP has promised to depute a special team of forensic experts.

The vajivahana installation in the mast was held between 11.50 am and 12.30 pm today. The works of fixing para (cylindrical coverings) in the mast was completed on Saturday morning.
