Punjab: Swaraj Abhiyaan to float party, fight 2017 elections

Prashant Bhushan (left) and Yogendra Yadav, members of the Abhiyaan, were expelled from the AAP last year for alleged anti-party activities.

Two years after it was formed, the Swaraj Abhiyaan on Saturday announced that it will float a political party that will contest all 117 seats in the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls in 2017.

Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav, members of the Abhiyaan, were expelled from the AAP last year for alleged anti-party activities.

“We created a movement with the Kisan Aandolan. After receiving a favourable response from the masses, we have now decided to float a political party in the next two months. We will contest on all 117 seats,” said Dr. Bhushan Yadav, a member of the movement.

According to insiders, suspended AAP MPs Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi and Harinder Khalsa also may join the party later.

Prof Manjit Singh, convenor of Swaraaj Abhiyaan said, “We formed our district body today in which Prof Santosh and Col JS Brar are the patrons while Kunwar Ranjan is the convenor.
