Dhadrianwale attack: Can comment only after probe ends, SAD

After the attack on Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and the police having rounded up eight accused in the case having alleged links with Damadami Taksal head Harnam Singh Dhuma, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is in a spot of bother.

Dhuma has been supporting the SAD for the last 10 years under the Sant Samaj, while Dhadrianwale is said to be close to the Punjab Congress. With Punjab elections round the corner, the SAD is careful before making any statements on the issue.

Chief parliamentary secretary in Punjab government and SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha said, “It is too early to comment on who is responsible for the crime. Both Harnam Singh Dhuma and Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale are respected personalities for Sikhs. The law will take its own course. Let the investigation be over.”

“It is obvious that with Sant Samaj, where Dhuma is chief, will not be affected,” he added.

Damdami Taksal supporters recently uploaded a picture of Dhadrianwale with Congress leader and former CM Punjab Rajinder Kaur Bhattal to highlight his relations with the party. Dhadrianwale, however, has never officially taken a side.

In 2012, the Sant Samaj had formally announced their support for the SAD in the assembly elections.
