Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar joined military personnel in paying tribute to Captain Rohit Kaushal on the 20th anniversary of his martyrdom at his native village Jalauli near Panchkula Tuesday.

Capt Kaushal belonged to the 18th Battalion of The Punjab Battalion and was serving on deputation with 12th Battalion of Rashtriya Rifles when he laid down his life on November 11, 1995, during a encounter with Afghan mercenaries in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lt Gen K J Singh, also paid his respects at the memorial set up in the village in the memory of the martyr. Personnel from 18 Punjab and 12 RR were also present on the occasion.

A contingent of 8 Sikh was also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, S S Kaushal, father of Capt Kaushal, said that he was a proud father because his son gave his life for the nation.

The martyr’s mother, Veena Kaushal, said, “Rohit always wanted to be an Army officer and was committed to serving the nation. Whenever we talked about his marriage, he would say that he was already married to his unit,” she said.
